Helen Fama died on September 24th, 2016. Helen was married in 1947 to Philip Fama Sr. who died in 1972. She is survived by her three children, Joe (his wife Barbara), Phil (his partner Susan) and Arlene. She is also survived by one grandchild "Katie".
Helen was born on June 13th, 1922, the seventh of eleven children born to Italian immigrant parents Michael and Raffaela Staiano. Her siblings: Lou, Mike, Frank, Angie, Tony, Leo, Ralph, Paul and Peter, as well as her beloved sister Rita Zinnanti, all predeceased her.
Helen was born in Manhattan and moved to Queens with her family when she was a teenager. She remained in Queens where she married and raised her children. She moved to Brooklyn for a few years and then upstate to the Troy/Albany area where she spent her final years living a contented, peaceful life.
Following her husband's death, Helen began a career in Social Services, working in the World Trade Center. She retired as an executive secretary in 1985, having worked for various New York State Commissioners. She was a devout Catholic who did volunteer work and enjoyed travelling the world extensively. Helen always had a beautiful smile to offer to anyone she'd meet. She will be missed.
