Keiji Shirata

Keiji Shirata was born on January 10, 1946, in Japan, and passed away peacefully on February 13, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He lived a life defined by perseverance, devotion, and quiet strength.

In 1972, Keiji came to America in pursuit of the American dream. Through hard work and determination, he built a life rooted in integrity and responsibility. He began working tirelessly at a Japanese company and, through years of dedication, eventually opened his own business, First Green Produce of New York, a company he proudly ran and worked at until illness no longer allowed him to continue.

Above all else, Keiji was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife, Takiko Shirata; his children, Takeshi Shirata and Keiko Shirata; and his cherished grandsons, Hikaru and Tai, who brought him endless joy.

Keiji was known as a provider in every sense of the word. He showed his love through action, working every day to support his family and ensuring they were always cared for. He had a gift for fixing anything that was broken, earning him the affectionate nickname “MacGyver.” If something needed repair, Keiji would find a way.

In his quieter moments, he enjoyed Sunday golf outings, tending to his garden, and growing fruits and vegetables with care and patience. He was also a devoted baseball fan, especially enjoying LA Dodgers games and proudly watching Shohei Ohtani win the World Series, moments that brought him genuine happiness.

Keiji faced life’s challenges with resilience and courage. He never gave up, always fighting until the very end with dignity and strength.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, remembered for his unwavering work ethic, gentle heart, and the legacy of love and perseverance he leaves behind.

Visitation services will be held at Frederick Funeral Home, located at 192-15 Northern Boulevard, Flushing, NY 11358, on February 19, 2026. The visitation will take place from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm and again from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Cremation private.
