Madeline Veronica (Nugent) Klemmer passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, and went home to the Lord. She was born in Flushing, Queens, New York, on May 21, 1970, to Madeline and Henry Nugent, the youngest of five children.
Madeline married the love of her life, John Klemmer, on September 15, 1995, and together they built a life full of love, laughter, and shared values. She was endlessly proud of their daughter, Molly Elizabeth, whom she often described as her greatest joy—an intelligent and independent young woman who carries her mother’s spirit forward.
To know Madeline was to laugh — not just a little, but fully, freely, and often. She possessed that rare and wonderful gift: the ability to lift a room simply by being in it. Brilliant, quick, and uproariously funny, Madeline could find humor in almost anything. Her wit was unmatched — a dazzling kind of intelligence that turned every conversation into a playful duel of minds. And yet, she never made you feel outmatched. Somehow, even when she was ten steps ahead, you felt like you were in on the joke.
Family was at the heart of Madeline’s life. She deeply cherished time spent with her large and lively Irish extended family. The loss of her beloved sister and best friend, Nancy, in December 2022, was a sorrow she carried with grace and courage. She is survived by her loving brothers, John (Sheila) Nugent of Seattle, WA, and Gerard (Kerry) Nugent of Floral Park, NY and many cherished nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Nancy, and her brother Joseph.
A proud New Yorker through and through, Madeline dedicated her career to the New York City public school system, where she served as a hardworking and passionate teacher, shaping young minds and inspiring her colleagues. She was a loyal Mets fan, a curious traveler, and an avid reader of The New York Times. Madeline attended Hunter College.
Madeline will be deeply missed by her devoted cousins, cherished friends, fellow educators, and all who were blessed to know her.
Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. Until we meet again, may God hold her in the palm of His hand.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Madeline’s memory to either the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation or the National MS Society.
A visitation for Madeline will be held Thursday, May 15, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Frederick Funeral Home, 192-15 Northern Boulevard, Flushing, NY 11358. A funeral mass will occur Friday, May 16, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Josaphat's Roman Catholic Church, 34-32 210th St, Bayside, NY 11361.
