Prospero, also known as Perry, was born on June 25, 1949, to Loreto and Hermenegilda (Balane) Santelices in Catanduanes, Philippines. He attended University of the East College of Law in the Philippines and graduated in 1976. He passed the Philippines Bar Exam on April 19, 1978 and married his wife, Melita, on June 24, 1978. Perry went on to immigrate to the United States in 1979 with Melita in New York City. In his spare time, he loved to read, spend time with his family, and attend high school reunions. A few of his favorite things to do was dance, play the guitar, and play cards or mahjong.
He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Melita Aytona Santelices; along with two children; Edward A. Santelices of Flushing, New York and Melissa and Garry Bagtas of Morris Plains, New Jersey; two grandchildren, Noah S. Bagtas and Elijah S. Bagtas; three siblings, Raul B. Santelices of Quezon City, Philippines, Efren B. Santelices of Quezon City, Philippines and Edwin B. Santelices of Quezon, Philippines; and many other loving nieces, nephews and relatives.
Visitation for Prospero B. Santelices will be held from 3:00pm-7:00pm, Sunday, February 28, 2021 at Frederick Funeral Home, 192-15 Northern Boulevard, Flushing, NY 11358. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, March 1, 2021, at 10:30am at Saint Nicholas of Tolentine R.C. Church, 150-75 Goethals Avenue, Jamaica, NY 11432 with parochial vicar Thomas P. Joseph officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Saint Mary Cemetary, 172-00 Booth Memorial Avenue, Flushing, NY 11365. Serving as pallbearers will be Dr. Lorenzo Cervantes, Mr. Matt Deschaine, Mr. Oliver Navarro, Mr. Robert Prado, Mr. Ronald Ramos, and Mr. Ryan Sy.
