Ramiro was born in Moaña, Galicia, Spain on July 12th, 1940, son of Ramiro Cancelas and Asuncion Piñeiro. He immigrated to New York in the 60’s where he met the love of his life, Anuncia. They were married in 1969 and together raised two daughters, Diana and Sandra.
Ramiro was a very talented carpenter and hard worker. Besides doing carpentry for companies in Long Island City and Brooklyn, during his spare time he remodeled all on his own each home where his family has lived, always adding a spark of his own creativity to tables, chairs, staircases, doors, wardrobes and china cabinets that he would make of wood. He was always willing to help anyone who asked him whether it be to fix a door hinge, polish a floor, to renovate their apartment or basement, or make a wooden picture frame.
In 2023, Ramiro was diagnosed with cancer but he faced his health challenges with a lot of strength and grace. He was a fighter and persevered against every challenging moment in this battle and fought until the very end.
Ramiro dedicated a lot of time to his carpentry craft but his utmost devotion was to his beloved wife, daughters, son-in-laws and grandchildren, Dario, Tatiana and Natalia. He loved being with his family in special events, life’s milestones, and many moments together with them here in New York and during his frequent travels with them to Galicia, Spain. He enjoyed sharing many of these moments also with his parents, his wife’s parents, brothers, his sister, his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Ramiro loved his wife, daughters, sons-in-law and grandchildren with all his heart, always helping them and cooking delicious meals for them, always talking to them and being a good listener, and always accompanying them and being present, sharing his love and his good heart with patience, a smile and sweet gentleness. Being with them is what he loved the most and he will be very missed by them.
Ramiro was the beloved husband of Anuncia Rodriguez, a loving father to his daughter Diana and her husband Rogelio, and to his daughter Sandra and her husband Jose; and a loving grandfather to Dario and Tatiana Torres Cancelas and Natalia Diaz-Cancelas; he is survived by his brothers Jose and Suso Cancelas Piñeiro, three brothers-in-law; four sisters-in-law, and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, all of whom he cherished.
