Minnie (“Merle”) B. Benson, age 91, of Forest Hills, New York, passed away on July 26, 2016. She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Wendell R. Benson, her parents, Yetta Skwersky Berger and Joseph Berger, and her brothers, Oscar Berger and Eddie Berger. She is survived by her children, Susan (Louis) Gutentag and Gary (Vanessa Stein) Benson, and her grandsons, Evan Benson Gutentag and David Robert Gutentag.
Merle was born on August 25, 1924, and raised in Philadelphia, but spent her entire adult life in New York, first in Manhattan, then in Forest Hills. Before she married, Merle worked at a synagogue as well as a foundling hospital, both in Manhattan. She never lost her love for children.
