In the time since Richie passed away and I have been around many of our former classmates, I think happily of our years as such. He was such an elf as much as an Olf...funny, spritely, sweet-natured and a good friend. He is missed and happily remembered.

I will never forget Mr. Olf. A true friend, teacher, and mentor. I loved him dearly

Again, I am so depressed over the passing of Richie, but like many of us, it brings us closer to our own mortality. His passing from a heart attack prompted me to go to a cardiologist to address some chest discomfort. They found a 75-90% blockage of the LAD, "The Widowmaker". I am so sorry to have learned about this in this way, but thank you Brother Richie for the extra time I have on this earth, R.I.P.

I also was a former student of Mr. Olf. It saddens me so much to hear that he has passed. My condolences and prayers are with his family. Mr Olf was one of a kind and honestly is the main reason why I appreciate classic films today. Thank You Mr Olf....

Such an inspiration when teaching in the classroom. He took teaching to a new level- the creativity was something that till this day I remember. He often spoke about his wife, daughter and sister in his classroom conversations. I am so heartbroken to know he has left this Earth. I am forever grateful that I had the opportunity to have had him as a teacher. Thank you for everything!

To my teacher, friend, and mentor

Mr. Olf, Richard, you changed my life and inspired so many of my past and future decisions. When it came to go to graduate school, I immediately thought of you and decided to pursue screen writing because I wanted to share that same passion. Every film class I ever took was all because of the man you are. Your passion for film and your deidcation to us students as well as your friendship are the reasons I not only consider you my greatest teacher, but my greatest friend. God bless you on your journey and maybe one day we can discuss which was the greatest samurai film ever made. I love you and hope to see you again.

My cousin Richard was a unique individual.  Quiet and reflecting with an exceptional mind and loving heart. He was a hero to many of the kids he taught and inspired them to become what they thought was out their reach. He will be missed by everyone, but never forgotten.

I'm reading all the great postings by Richards former students with tears in my eyes...what a great gift you were to the world and to all the kids and friends you inspired and still inspire with the ideas you set into motion

You are my friend and you will forever be in my thoughts. Loyalty, peace, love and laughter. Knowing someone brilliant is wonderful. Knowing someone unique is memorable. Knowing Richard Olf is life altering.

Richie was a breath of humor and good nature everywhere he went. I first met him at Russell Sage Junior High, in the cafeteria, much to the perpetual consternation of Mr. Cooper and Mr. Federbusch, who tried their best to keep us all quiet at lunch. Richie's laugh or funny remark was often the last one heard. He was never in trouble for very long. He was just too sweet for that. He was just the nicest fellow. Seeing him last month at Alex Garfield's was a gift! I had remembered him happily over the years and was so glad to catch up, however briefly. My condolences to his family. He will be missed by friends and acquaintances with the same smiles he always gave.
