

Richard "Dickie" Taksel, 90, passed away peacefully and with dignity on September 16, 2024, with his devoted wife and lifelong companion, Marilyn, and other family members by his side. Richard was a cherished husband, son, loving uncle to Sharon and Ellen, beloved by his extended family, and a dear friend to everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Born on July 11, 1934, in the Bronx, New York, to Max and Frances, Richard was the youngest of three children, preceded in death by his siblings Alan and Lila. His youthful energy was legendary, with friends often remarking that he “ran like a gazelle” during neighborhood games.
Richard began working at the young age of 13 at a local pharmacy, dedicating his life to helping others, providing for those he loved and igniting a passion that would shape his future career. A graduate of Fordham University, he became a pharmacist and went on to open two successful stores, which he ran until his retirement.
In 1969, Richard married Marilyn, the love of his life. Together, they shared one of life’s great love stories that was admired by all who knew them—always seen hand-in-hand, Dickie never wanting to be more than an arm’s length away, inseparable throughout their years together. The gleam in Richard’s eye and the warmth in his heart for Marilyn was evident until his final moments.
Richard was known for his deep love for his family and friends. He was always with a compassionate ear, thoughtful advice, and a clever quip to brighten countless days. Richard’s sharp intellect and sense of humor left a lasting impression on all who met him. He was also deeply generous, supporting numerous causes close to his heart, and his kindness positively impacted the lives of many.
Richard's gentle soul and boundless kindness touched everyone in his world. He will be remembered as a blessing to all who were fortunate enough to have known him. His legacy of warmth, compassion, and unwavering love will continue to inspire and uplift those he left behind.
A funeral service for Richard will be held Thursday, September 19, 2024 from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM at Parkside Memorial Chapels, 114-03 Queens Blvd, Forest Hills, NY 11375. Following the funeral service will be a committal service from 1:45 PM to 2:30 PM at Mount Hebron Cemetery, 130-04 Horace Harding Expy, New York, NY 11367.
