November 26th, 1946 - September 2nd, 2025
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Robert Michael Silver, a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and cherished friend.
Robert shared 58 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Marilyn. He was a devoted and nurturing father to Alyson and Jessica, and a caring father-in-law to John and Rob. Known affectionately as “Boppy,” Robert took immense pride in being a grandfather to Grey, Eli, Remi, and Jett, each of whom he loved with all his heart. He was also a proud and loving uncle to Adrienne and Dennis, and a warm, steady presence in the lives of their children, Gabrielle, Ethan, and Reece. Robert’s kindness and unwavering support enriched the lives of his extended family, and his love radiated far beyond his immediate circle.
Robert served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1969, shortly after marrying Marilyn. After beginning his career in advertising as a typesetter, he later found his calling in public service. As the Health and Safety Officer at the New York City Department of Design and Construction, Robert served with great integrity and commitment. Among his most meaningful contributions was his role as part of the response team at Ground Zero in the days following September 11th, a role he carried with great pride and humility.
While Robert valued his professional accomplishments, his greatest joy was his family. He was a man who lived with a zest for life, embracing each day as a gift. He often reminded those around him, “Life is short, you may as well enjoy every moment to the fullest.”
A longtime resident of Forest Hills, Robert was deeply committed to his community. He served with pride on the local community board and was an active member of the American Legion Post 1424. One of his most cherished roles was serving as Director of the Forest Hills Memorial Day Parade, a position he held with honor for 30 years.
Beyond his civic engagement, Robert found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved summer barbecues in the backyard and leisurely walks through the neighborhood with his beloved wife, Marilyn. An avid traveler and enthusiastic planner, he was always dreaming up the next vacation, whether with family or friends, eager to create lasting memories with those he loved most.
Robert’s warmth, humor, and boundless love will be remembered by all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of devotion, generosity, and joy, and a family who will forever hold him close in their hearts.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering or Hatzalah in memory of Robert Silver.
A funeral service will be held at Sinai Chapels, located at 114-03 Queens Blvd, Forest Hills, NY, 11375. The service is scheduled for September 5, 2025, from 9:30 am to 10:30 am. Burial will follow immediately after the service at the Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge, New Jersey. For those unable to attend in person, a live stream will be available at https://fweb.tv/227503.
