29 August 1936 - 20 September 2022
Sylvia Hess was a woman full of abundant love and enthusiastic passion.
At the top of the list on both fronts was her deep love and commitment to family. She was deeply devoted to those holding the most special places in her heart and she continually went to any length to care for, advocate for and champion them all.
She also had a profound passion for music, and whether she was playing her piano with great skill and joy or singing along to anything from Yiddish favorites to her favorite Barbara Streisand at family get togethers, or when she tap danced her little toesies off on stage, there was an ever present delight in her eyes and a smile on her face. She really enjoyed entertaining and totally loved being in the spotlight.
She was also a very proud New Yorker who rarely left her beloved city and when she did, was always just thrilled to be back home as she was about anywhere she had just been.
Sylvia was dedicated secretary, who wore the title as a badge of honor, and spent over 40 years in service to just one company, even working for them part time after her retirement, well into her 80’s.
She is lovingly survived by her devoted nephews and niece - Evan, Jeffrey and Allyson, her great nieces and nephews - Matthew, Jordan, Jaqi and Jessie, her Brother-In-law - Les, her cousins - Judy, Debbie, Sheila, Sandra, Paul, Malka Bracha, Larry, Blane, Cori, as well many other cousins, great nieces and nephews and dear, dear friends. She was predeceased by her loving parents - Bessie and Jack and her beloved sister - Irene, as well as by her devoted husband Richard and by her very special and deeply loved Edward.
Sylvia Hess was truly one of a kind. If you knew her, you are now smiling wryly and nodding your head in agreement.
Her unconditional love and devotion, her fierce honesty and her in-your-face candor will be missed.
She will forever live in our hearts.
