Yolanda was born on November 23, 1970, to Vernon Wright and Marion J. Burnett in Brooklyn, New York. She was the third born child of five children (also known as MJB’s Fab 5). While living in New York, she attended P.S. 20 Elementary School, Ronald Edmonds Learning Center (MS113), and Bladensburg High School in Bladensburg, MD.
She was the mother of two beautiful children, whom she adored. The highlight of her life was the birth of her first grandchild Kysir Parker. She was a very doting grandmother and enjoyed every aspect of it. When you saw her, you seen him not far behind. He was her greatest joy in life.
Yolanda worked for the New York City Housing and Preservation Development for the last 20 years. She left a lasting impact on everyone she encountered during her employment with NYC HPD.
Yolanda gave her life to Christ many years ago and was a devoted member of St. Peter’s Hunter Temple AME Zion Church in Brooklyn, NY. She was an active member of her congregation. She was a member on the Hospitality Committee, Social Action and Church Events Committee, Class Leader #1, Leader of Leaders, NYC District Conference Worker, as well as the Trustee Board Chairperson.
Yolanda loved spending time with her family, coordinating events and planning trips. You could always count on her to take leadership when you needed her help. Of the many meals she enjoyed preparing and her family enjoyed eating, no one will be able to master her infamous cornbread.
She is preceded in death by her older brother Bruce Williams, Sr.
She leaves to cherish her memory:
Her daughter Lesa James, son in law Jason James, son Derek Williams, grandson Kysir Parker, her significant other Ruperto “Panama” Legister, father Vernon Wright, mother Marion “Judy” Burnett, stepfather Richard Burnett, sisters Eyvonne Wilson, Ida Williams, brother Vernon Williams, Grandmother Annie Wright, and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, and friends.
A visitation for Yolanda will be held Saturday, December 3, 2022 from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Forest Park Funeral Home, 114-03 Queens Blvd, Forest Hills, NY 11375.
