It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Angela Maria Joon on July 4, 2026, in Hamilton, Ontario, at the age of 76.
Born in Accadia, Foggia, Italy, on November 26, 1949, Angela was the daughter of Angelina and Celestino Grieco. She later made her home in Fort Erie, where she built a life filled with family, friendship, food, laughter, and love.
She was the beloved wife of Dirk Joon, with whom she shared 51 years of marriage. She was the loving mother of Nick Joon and the late Adam Joon, and a proud Nana to Oliver Joon. She will be deeply missed by her stepdaughter, Ami Joon; her daughter in law, Samantha Schlosser; her sister, Linda Grieco; her brother-in-law, Doug Branton; her extended family; and the many friends who were such an important part of her life. She was predeceased by her cherished son, Adam; her sister, Maria Branton; her parents, Angelina and Celestino Grieco; and her mother and father-in-law, Mary and Pieter Joon.
Her career began as a speech pathologist before she returned to school to become a teacher. She spent nearly 30 years in the classroom and school system, bringing care, humour, patience, and heart to the students and colleagues whose lives she touched.
Full of spunk, Angela was social, spirited, and up for just about anything. She loved a good party, a good laugh, a good cocktail, and any reason to dance. She had style, opinions, humour, and just the right amount of mischief. She was never too worried about bending the rules a little if it meant having more fun.
Angela enjoyed the good things in life, especially when they were shared with the people she loved. At the top of the list was a good vacation, whether it was travelling through Europe, relaxing at an all-inclusive, heading out on road trips in the van, or making memories in Myrtle Beach, Florida, and Virginia Beach. She could always spot a good deal, loved to shop, and was an incredible cook who was forever working on perfecting the next recipe to share. Around Angela’s table, meals had a way of turning into an occasion.
She knew how to enjoy life and how to bring people along with her. She loved her family fiercely, treasured her friendships, and made ordinary moments feel special. The memories she leaves behind are full of laughter, music, stories, good food, good drinks, and the kind of love that stays with you.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Hamilton General Hospital for the care and compassion they showed Angela.
Visitation will be held at Benner Funeral Home in Fort Erie on Wednesday, July 8, from 2:00–4:00 p.m. and 6:00–8:00 p.m. A funeral service will take place at Benner Funeral Home on Thursday, July 9, at 11:00 a.m.
Angela will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, the family would be grateful for donations made in Angela’s memory to the Circle Back Foundation, a cause close to the family’s heart that was created in memory of her son, Adam.
