Barbara, of Fort Erie, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2026 on her 92nd birthday.
Born on August 13, 1934 in Goderich, ON, Barb was the beloved daughter of Eva and William Elliott McVittie. Predeceased by husband Harry Lavoie (1987) and Rene Leonard (2003). Throughout her life, Barb was known for being dedicated to her family and for the lasting impact she had on the people around her.
Barb will be deeply missed by her four children, Ardy (Keith), Kathy (Rod), Patti and Ed (Tracy); her seven grandchildren, Candice, Keith, Renee, Lyndsay, Meaghan, Michael and Hailey; and her five great grandchildren.
Her sister Marilyn was her dearest friend. The life they shared together in the early days in Windsor was filled with love and joy raising their families and later in life creating memories travelling.
She lovingly raised her four children and, during Harry’s railway career, moved several times throughout Ontario to follow him and build a home wherever his work took them. Together, Barb and Harry shared a wonderful sense of adventure. Their years were filled with memories of flying in their Cessna, fishing, boating, camping at Rondeau Park, snowmobiling, and creating stories and experiences that would be treasured for years to come.
Barb had a deep love for her poodles, who held a very special place in her heart. She had a zest for life and enjoyed gardening, travelling, especially onboard a cruise ship, spending winters in Florida, playing bingo, visiting the casino, driving in her Caddy and going to the Sally. 😊
She cherished the time spent with family and friends, and the many adventures that made life memorable.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the wonderful care Barb received. Dr. Csanadi and Dr. Spencer, and the dedicated nurses and support staff at Gilmore Lodge.
A celebration of Barb’s life will be held on Saturday August 15th 2026.
The family will receive guests from 11:30am-12:30pm at Benner Funeral Home, followed by a service and interment at McAffee Cemetery.
Barb’s warmth, kindness, and love will remain in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be remembered with love and greatly missed by her family and friends.
