

She will be lovingly remembered by her son Robert Martin ( Dee Longboat ), her two granddaughters Tammy Martin ( Mike Wickham ) and Tanya Martin, and her loving great-granddaughter Bianca Martin. She will also be remembered by her sisters, Chickie Longboat ( Ted, deceased ), Linda Hirshman ( Kerry, deceased ) , and Sharon Hernandez ( Robert ). As well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Maynard “Hook” Martin, as well as her daughter, Robbin Martin; her sister, Joan Staats; her two brothers, Melvin and Gordon; and her mother, Ruby Claus.
Eleanor was born on the Six Nations Reserve on August 23rd, 1930, in the Mohawk Turtle Clan. She was the third-born child and the oldest of 5 girls. She married Hook on August 27th, 1949. She later adopted two twin siblings from Six Nations. When she was a teenager, she attended the Brantford Residential School. She became a survivor of the school, alongside her sister Joan. After the passing of her daughter Robbin, she and her husband took in her two granddaughters, adopting them. In 2008, she welcomed her first and only great-granddaughter, Bianca. For the majority of her adult and later years, she was an avid golfer and 5-pin bowler. She had a strong love for dogs. She enjoyed road trips, going out for dinner, and especially going to the casino.
Visitation will be held on Monday the 20th from 2 pm to 4 pm and later 6 pm to 8 pm at Benners Funeral Home.
Her funeral will be held later on Tuesday 11 am the 21st at Saint Paul’s Anglican Church in Fort Erie, Ontario. Following the funeral will be her burial at McAffee Cemetery.
Following the burial, the family will be hosting a lunch at the Fort Erie Friendship Centre at 3:30 pm
