Evelyn Cross

It is with deep sorrow that we mourn the loss of Evelyn Fern Cross (née Zimmerman) who peacefully passed away in her 96th year on October 29th, 2026, at Gilmore Lodge surrounded by her family. Predeceased by her husband Stanley Cross, and her brothers Clayton Zimmerman, Wilfred & Jimmy Robins.

Loving Mother to Larry, Lynne (Alan), Kelly (Gregory) & Bonnie (Bev). Proud Grandmother to Amy (Matthew), Krista (Keyr), Bobby (Ashleigh), Brooke (Jordan), and Casey. Adoring Great-Grandmother to Alexa, Kylie, Hayley, Wyatt, Josie, Paxton, Mason, Kane, and Bowie. She is survived by her brother Fred Meiners, and many nieces and nephews.

Evelyn grew up in Sherkston, and when her family moved to Crystal Beach, she met her love, Stan. The young sweethearts spent 71 years together with fond memories of the park and raising three children while running the Ridgeway Bowling Alley. When her kids had grown, she found herself working at Oldfords in the deli. Evelyn was an incredible knitter, and her family will always treasure the many sweaters and Christmas stockings she made for them. When Evelyn wasn’t knitting (or making her famous peanut butter balls), she was a social butterfly and could be found playing bingo or cards - she had a lucky streak. Evelyn was a two-time breast cancer survivor and loved spending time with her family; we will miss her.

Thank you to the staff at Gilmore Lodge & Garrison Place for taking care of Evelyn in her final years. A private service will be held by the family. Memorial donations can be made in Evelyn’s name to the Alzheimer Society, Canadian Cancer Society or the Ontario Rett Syndrome Association.
