Judith Elizabeth Sundstrom

Judith passed peacefully on September 14th, 2026, after a valiant battle with cancer. Her passing was edifying to all those who witnessed it.

Judith was the loving mother of Stephen Sundstrom (Tina), Gillian Bosje (John), and Geoffrey Sundstrom (Kelly). She was the cherished Nana of Christian, Britney, Sara-Beth, Peter, Alexander, Desmond, Piper, and Scarlett, and Great Nana of Athena, Jackson, and Everly.

She was a dear friend to Branka Jones and an adopted mother to Emma Bonin (Chris), Evan Jones (Jackie), and Connor Jones. She was also a beloved Nana Sundstrom to Anna, Michelle, and Claire.

She was the daughter of Peter and Elizabeth Burton. Judith was the beloved sister of Esther Bouthilier (Roy), Yvonne Caulfield (Lawrence), George Burton (Anna Marie), Joe Burton (Anne), Alex Burton (Claire), Keith Burton (Terry), Debbie Isnor (Harry), Glenda Cheeke (Ed), and Terry Burton (Leslie). Her large extended family will also cherish her memory.

She is predeceased by Peter and Elizbeth Burton, Arlene Burton, Yvonne and Lawrence Caulfield, Roy Bouthilier and George Burton.

Judith was born in Alder Point, Cape Breton Island, on September 11th, 1952. She grew up in Mississauga, where she met and married Bruce Sundstrom.

Throughout her life, Judith had many careers, including working as a cardio-thoracic nurse, educational assistant, and finally as a secondary school teacher of Philosophy, Ethics, and Music. Her introverted nature allowed her to spend countless hours reading voraciously and pursuing her love of knowledge. She completed her undergraduate degree almost entirely through distance and online education. That love of learning ultimately culminated in the completion of a Master’s Degree in Scriptural Theology, which led her to teach Catholic Education courses to teachers.

Judith had many interests, including all sports and, in particular, the NFL—Go Bills! Music, however, played a major role throughout her life. She taught herself to play some instruments, including the flute and guitar, while mastering others, such as the accordion and French horn, through music lessons.

Above all else, Judith loved her Roman Catholic faith. Later in life, she became an Oblate, serving the Carmelite Sisters of Buffalo.

Family and friends are invited to Benner Funeral Services, 1105 Benner Avenue in Fort Erie, on Friday September 18th, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. A Funeral Mass will take place on Saturday September 19th at Saint Michael Roman Catholic Church, 310 Central Avenue in Fort Erie. A Rite of Committal will follow Mass, at Saint Michael’s Cemetery, 495 Stonemill Road, Ridgeway, ON.

Donations may be made to the Walker Family Cancer Centre, and would be appreciated by her family, with much gratitude to all the doctors, nurses and staff who serve there.
