that we announce the passing
of Marie Delano on June 2,
2026, in her 94th year. She
passed away peacefully in her
sleep at Millenium Long Term
Care Home, where she lived
for the past 6 months. She is
predeceased by her husband
Joe Delano and was a loving
mother to her children Coleen
Rakoczy (Dan) and Randy
Delano (Ann) and her
grandchildren Katie Rakoczy
(Brad), Paul Delano (Sherry),
Johnny Delano (Alex), and
Jennifer Delano and her greatgrandchildren
Frankie, Sofia,
Giuliana, Matteo, Steffania,
Jax, and Everlee. Marie was
born in Napan Bay, New
Brunswick, in 1932 to Henry
and Frances Gilliss. She was
their firstborn. Marie was a big
sister to Carl Gilliss (Marie),
Allen Gilliss (Helen), and
Bonnie Godfrey. Marie
relocated to the Niagara
Region when she married Joe
Delano where she worked for
38 years as an office clerk at
Cynaimid. Marie dedicated
herself to her career, while
also caring for her family.
Outside of work she enjoyed
staying active through curling
and bowling. However, her
greatest passion was
gardening. Later in life they
moved to Fort Erie and lived
on the Niagara Parkway,
where she turned her yard into
a beautiful bouquet of luscious
gardens everywhere you
looked. She was so proud of
what she had accomplished.
Marie returned to New
Brunswick every year for 40
years to spend time with her
parents, siblings, and many
nieces and nephews. Many
nights would be spent on the
farm in a warm kitchen playing
cards and teasing each other
over a warm cup of tea and a
table full of goodies to get you
through to breakfast. Marie
will be missed by many who
knew her, especially her
daughter's childhood friend
Lisa Antonio. Marie, Lisa, &
Coleen were partners in life
and will have to go forward
with one partner missing,
gone but never forgotten. Our
hopes are that Marie is with
her husband Joe and her
parents Frances and Henry,
having a game of cards with a
cup of tea and some goodies
to get them through whatever
life has to offer when we pass
through to the next journey.
