Robert George Allen

Robert “Bob” George Allen, 91, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Saturday, May 9, 2026. He was born August 24, 1934, in Hamilton, Ontario, to the late Herbert and Florence Allen. Bob earned his teaching degree from McMaster University, class of 1963 and his Masters from the University of Buffalo. He dedicated himself to his young students as a teacher and Elementary principal in Ridgeway, Fonthill and Welland for 33 years. He then studied and went into business for himself as a bookkeeper and continued to help the local community.

Bob shared many wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Lorna. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who cherished time with his family. He loved to travel, especially enjoying cruises and vacations where he created many lasting memories. After Lorna’s passing in 2002 he found joy and companionship with his second wife, Barbara.

In his free time, Bob worked tirelessly with Communities in Bloom, Habitat for Humanity, the Bruce Trail, CVITP volunteer tax service, Optimist Club and Niagara Woodcarvers and served on the Library and YMCA boards. Woodworking, fishing, and golf were among his favorite pastimes.

Bob is survived by his children, John and Nancy; grandchildren, Chesna, Alena and Lucas, Robert and Abigail and great-grandson Luke and nieces and nephews throughout Canada and England.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Ann and brother-in-law Bill Hunter, mother-in-law, Mary Joy MacLeod. He was also preceded in death by his two wives, Lorna Mae Allen (MacLeod) in 2002 and Barbara Morellato in 2024.

Towards the end of his life, he confided that he had no “bucket list:” he had built houses, flown airplanes, navigated the lakes and rivers of North America, traveled the world, and had two full measures of love with Lorna and Barbara.

As he wished, there is no formal service being held, he has been interred at McAffee Cemetery in Fort Erie.
