Robert Hanna

Initially inspired to join the Navy and later becoming an avid boater, Robert Hanna, one of the last surviving original founding members of the Power Squadron, transitioned life at the age of 96, just shy of his 97th birthday in August.

Robert's fascination with travelling by sea began as a child when his parents returned to their homeland of Ireland with young Robert in tow. After taking up residence in Ireland, the family made the lengthy voyage back to Canada by ship, an adventure that left a lasting impression on the young Irish pup.

Robert went on to serve in the Korean War with the Royal Canadian Navy and was stationed in Nova Scotia where his first son, Robert was born. He later settled in Fort Erie with his wife Dorothy nee Chudley (predeceased), and their family. Robert had a long successful career of 35 years with the Canadian Niagara Power Company starting as a lineman and ultimately retiring from a managerial position.

He is survived by his son, Mark, daughter in law, Anna, his daughter Valerie Hanna and his grandson Robert, son of his late son Robert.

Robert lived a full life, enjoyed himself immensely and took great pride in building and acquiring rental properties. He was known for his work ethic, acerbic wit, strong opinions, and an art form talent for ruffling feathers. An entertaining raconteur, Bob was a modern day James Joyce, with his own rendition of Ulysses, unfolding in a day of the life of Fort Erie. Equal parts charming, exasperating and entertaining, we celebrate you Robert!

Visitation will be held at Benner Funeral Services on Thursday, June 18, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 4:00pm and 6:00pm to 8pm. Funeral officiant services will be held on Friday June 19, 2026 commencing at 2:00pm Benner Funeral Services followed by interment at Greenwood cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather afterward for a reception at Take 2 Restaurant and Bar, 1882 Garrison Rd, Fort Erie, Ontario L2A 5M4. Contributions to Pancreatic Cancer would be appreciated by the family.
