With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Roger Bomberry in his 77th year, after a prolonged illness which he battled courageously with strength and resilience.
He was the loving husband of Rita and the proud father of Serene, Keith (Fina), John and Michael and the gentle and devoted grandfather of Mia and Luca.
Roger was pre-deceased by his wife of over 50 years, Rita, his daughter Serene, his father Arnold and mother, Hilda. Roger was the fifth oldest of twelve children. Sonny (Vivien), Joan (deceased) (Ambrose), Richard (deceased), David (deceased), Barsie (deceased), Donna (Ted), Debbie (Mike), Michael (deceased) (Jay) Tina, Tim (deceased), and Harvey. He is survived by his brother and sister in laws John (Cindy) and Sarina (Carl). He loved all his siblings and their families very much and will be missed by dozens of nieces and nephews.
Roger was born in Ohsweken, Ontario. In 1956 the family moved to Fort Erie, where he attended Wintemute public school and later Fort Erie Secondary School, there he met his love of his life, Rita. Rita and Roger would marry on June 9, 1973. He would spend the next 51 years raising the boys, travelling to Florida and patrolling the highways and roads as an Ontario Provincial Police Officer.
Roger spent 29 years as a dedicated member of the OPP, starting his Career in Merlin in 1972, He served in various locations across southern Ontario, including Welland, Cayuga, Crystal Beach, and finally Niagara Falls, where he retired as a senior constable in 2001. Roger wore the uniform proudly and will be remembered for his fairness, calm leadership and dedication to duty.
Roger spent years on the road with the force but ultimately his greatest joy and commitment was the time traveling with his family to Florida. Roger enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, golfing with his brothers and sisters, relaxing in his favorite reclining chair and mowing the lawn.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Scher, the staff at Maple Park Lodge and the Welland Hemo-dialysis unit as they looked after Roger’s care in the final years of his life.
Benner Funeral Services will receive family and friends on Sunday May 17th from 11 am to 2 pm.
