July 15, 1945 - August 24, 2026
With great sadness, we announce that Ron passed at Hamilton General Hospital in the early morning of August 24, 2026.
He was born in Fort Erie, Ontario to parents Frank and Eleanor (Fox) Clemence, predeceased by them, his wife Maureen Upper, his brother Ricky Clemence and his friend Gisele Garrett. Left to mourn are his daughter, Darlene Millar and his son, Danny Upper, his brothers, Rollie (Sherrie Peters), Gary (Louise Jessop), Dennis (Valerie) and Craig (Valerie) and his many friends.
Most people in the Fort Erie area know Ron as Fort Erie’s “Glass Man”. He worked with his father Frank at Clemence Glass and Paint on Niagara Boulevard for many years and took over the business as Clemence Glass once Frank retired in the 1990’s. Ron retired
in 2019 and moved back to the original Niagara Boulevard address. Full circle.
Ron was a big sports fan, football, baseball and hockey. However, his real pleasure was gambling, betting on horse races and casino slots. He would often regale family members with tales of his wins. Losses, were never spoken of. Ron was well regarded by his many friends in the community. He was often a “go-to-guy” and willing helper when it came to getting sound advice and lending a strong hand of support.
He will be sadly missed, especially at “the round circle” by his Thursday lunch group as well as his regular morning breakfast buddies. The family extends special thanks to the nurses and doctors at Hamilton General Hospital and his friend Karen Engels who regularly visited Ron in the hospital over the last two and a half weeks, comforted him and kept the Clemence family informed about his status.
No formal service will take place at this time. A celebration of life event will be scheduled at a later date.
