May 16 1943 – August 10, 2026
It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Shirley Millicent Norman (nee Wright)
Loving mom to Bradley and Susan, Proud nana to Corrina and Joshua.
Supportive mother-in-law to Paul Renshaw and Nana-in-law to Jacob McCracken.
Predeceased by her parents Helen and Edwin Wright and her wonderful Husband Bob Norman for whom she has been reunited with.
Shirley considered her life full of families, starting with her immediate family with a huge abundance of cousins that she loved fiercely. They weren’t just family; they were her friends.
Her next family was her nursing school classmates of the Mack School of Nursing. She made many lasting friendships who were with her right to the end. Most notably her friend from grade school Mary MacMillen and Cheryl Allen for whom 63 years of friendship, lasted the test of time.
Moving into her nursing profession, her work family at Welland County Hospital brought her a closeness that today is not experienced by many. Working her way up from staff nurse to head nurse to Supervising nurse on the maternity ward. She cherished all of those years making lasting friendships with many.
Her retirement years brought many new family groups, most notably her swimming, quilting and Friday morning tea groups. For all of you, she cherished all of those moments.
When not in town, she spent her summers on Manitoulin Island, and the Kagawong crew were her family that she spent a lot of time with. Missing them when she came home for the winter, forever missed by Mary, Linda, Dale and Sue.
Family was her life and she loved them all.
Our thanks to Dr. Scher and all of the palliative care staff at Douglas Memorial Hospital for the care and compassion you all showed her. To Cheryl Allen for just being there, you’ve been our rock though all of this and we love you.
