Vera was born on August 14, 1929 in Grand Tracadie, Prince Edward Island, the daughter of Alexander and Augustina Watts. For most of her young adult life she lived on Black Road in Atikokan with her husband Joseph Meany and sons Larry and Micheal.
She was generally a happy person who loved to have company and attend family Christmas dinners. She and Joe spent the majority of their summers working and living in Quetico Provincial Park at the Lac La Croix Ranger Station. She enjoyed attending to the needs of the occasional paddlers who checked in as they travelled through the Park or the odd relative that dropped by. Vera treasured her time there and became passionate for the solitude and living in the wilderness on the lake.
During this time she was blessed with three grandchildren, Joey (Larry and Maxine), Michael and April (Michael and Brenda). She retired with Joe in a cabin on their land at Whiskeyjack Lake and continued to enjoy the solitude of the wilderness and visiting with her grandson Joey.
Once Joe passed away she reluctantly moved to the seniors building at Fotheringham Court in Atikokan prior to her final move to the AGH extended care unit.
Besides her parents, Vera was pre-deceased by her husband Joe and several of her siblings. She is survived by her brother Ralph Watts (Sue), sons, and grandchildren.
She is deeply loved and will be greatly missed by Larry, Maxine, Joey, numerous family members and many friends. As per her request there will be no service, however donations can be made to the Atikokan General Hospital and cards can be mailed to Box 1002, Atikokan, ON, P0T 1C0.
