Delores was born on January 3, 1934 at Couchiching First Nation to Arthur Sr. and Matilda (Morrisseau) Lee, and was raised at Bear’s Pass. She completed her elementary education by correspondence and attended high school in Minneapolis and Fort Frances. As a young woman she worked for several tourist camps, and as a secretary and home care worker, before joining the LaVerendrye Hospital RNA Program. Upon graduating in 1960, Delores purchased a Viking speedboat from Eaton’s in order to get home to Bear’s Pass on her days off in the summer as there was no road at the time. Not long after another Viking entered her life, Orville Eyolfson, and they were married on August 14, 1965.
Delores worked in nursing at LaVerendrye Hospital for several years before joining the staff at Rainycrest, where she retired from in 1994. In 1989, Delores and Orville moved from Fort Frances to Bear’s Pass. Delores loved to be at the lake, spending time with Orville, fishing and hunting, and entertaining family and friends at her home. Her walleye dinners and wild rice casseroles were enjoyed by many. She also enjoyed crocheting, quilting, curling, participating in fundraising activities for the Halkirk fire hall, and was a member of the Royal Purple. Delores enjoyed travelling to visit family and friends, spending time in the southern U.S. in winter months in her retirement, and greatly enjoyed a trip to Iceland with her husband and son in 2003.
She leaves behind her husband Orville; son Brian (Sean Anderson) of Toronto; sisters-in-law Joanne Lee of International Falls, Rita Lee of Winnipeg and Donna Hope of Beausejour, MB; brothers-in-law Gerald Eyolfson of Pine Falls, MB, John (Henriette) Eyolfson of Thunder Bay and Dennis (Elizabeth) Eyolfson of Minneapolis, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Delores was predeceased by her parents Arthur and Matilida; in-laws Harold and Marion Eyolfson; siblings Dorothy Storey, Hazel Struve, Reuben Lee, Art Lee, Lucille Prymak, Ronnie Lee, Everett (Poncho) Lee, Marilyn Strand and Florence Ogden; sister-in-law Connie Eyolfson and brother-in-law Bob Hope; and nephew, Brent Ogden.
A memorial mass for Orville and Delores will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at 11 a.m. at the Bears Pass Chapel.
If friends so desire in memoriam donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Alzheimers Society in care of Green Funeral Home, Box 427, Fort Frances, ON, P9A 3M8.
