Dino Morelli

Dino was born on June 6, 1939 in Aiello Calabro, Italy to Domenico and Rosina Morelli. The family immigrated to Canada in 1953 settling in Fort Frances, ON. Dino started his working career with his father at the LaVerendrye Hospital kitchen. He loved to cook, catering many events over the years. He was well known for his suppers at St. Mary’s Church. He worked for many years at Safeway, and managed the Red Dog Inn and Plaza Lanes. Dino was full of ideas and had an entrepreneurial spirit. He worked hard at every venture he took on whether it was a charity event or running one of his own businesses such as Gringo’s.

He was united in marriage to Margaret Zaren on December 1, 1962 and together they raised five children. He was devastated by her death on August 22, 1990 from cancer. He was blessed to find love again and on August 6, 2011 he was united in marriage to Elaine Scofield. They spent many joyful years together cooking, traveling and laughing. Dino was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus and served as District Deputy and Grand Knight.

Dino leaves behind his wife Elaine; children Gina (Greg) Sigurdson, Tony Morelli, Teresa Hazel (Howard), Domenic (Tara) and Dino (Kristin); grandchildren Miranda (Wayne), Joshua (Katie), Jessica (Andrew), Taylor, Jared, Lena (Wyatt), Sisily and William; great grandchildren Jaden, Samuel, Vincent, Landen and Weston; brothers Julian (Heather) and Francesco (Linda), the Zaren and Morin families as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; wife Margaret; sister Teresa and infant granddaughter Marie.

A visitation will be held on Friday, December 9, 2016 at 7 p.m. Parish prayers will be held at 7:30 p.m. with the Knights of Columbus. Friends are invited to join the family in sharing memories and stories immediately following prayers.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Fort Frances, ON with Father Alan Albao officiating. Interment will take place in the Holy Cross Cemetery.

The pallbearers will be Greg Sigurdson, Ben Morelli, Andrew McComb and grandsons Josh Sigurdson, Jared Morelli and Jaden Cooper. The Knights of Columbus will provide the Honour Guard.
