

She was born on November 15, 1920 in Morsil, Sweden to Frans and Britta Engstrom. The family arrived in Canada in 1924, settling in Fort Frances. She graduated from Robert Moore and Fort France High School, marrying Mike Zub in 1941. Elly was a quiet, kind, loving lady whose life was focused on her family and helping others. She was a true Christian and her social life revolved around church activities. She was the oldest living member of the Founding Families of Zion Lutheran Church. She loved their cabin on Rainy Lake. Elly and Mike spent many happy years with their children and grandchildren “up the lake”. Mom will be remembered lovingly by her family and friends.
She is survived by her daughter Carol Ewacha and Paul; son Warren Zub and Heather; grandchildren Denise Chapman and Rob, Darrin Ewacha and Sandra, Kerry Zub, Ryan Zub and Terri; great grandchildren Lucas, Jacob and Matthew Ewacha, Brighton Pollard, Landon and Adalyn Zub; sister Mabel Plymate; sisters-in-law Carol Engstrom and Joyce Zub; brother-in-law Glen Canfield.
Elly was predeceased by her parents Frans and Britta Engstrom; husband Mike Zub; parents-in-law John and Katherine Zub; sisters Margaret Canfield and Doris Calder and brother Enar Engstrom,brothers and sisters-in-law Lawrence Calder, El Plymate, Alec and Katherine Zub, Eddy and Jean Zub, Harry and Sally Zub, Roy Zub, Nettie and Bill Galandly; nephew and godson Bradley Plymate.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 18, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Fort Frances with Pastor Brian Keffer officiating.
The honourary pallbearers will be her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place and a private family interment will take place at a later date.
