

It is with sadness the family of Emily Ethel Munro, age 90, of 425 Nelson St., Fort Frances, Ontario announce her passing on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at LaVerendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ontario.
Emily was born June 21, 1921 in Brandon, Manitoba to the late Harper and Amy Simmons. Emily was united in marriage to Evald Gustafson in 1940 and raised three children. Evald passed away in 1972. Emily later married James Munro in 1977. James predeceased her in 1999. In her earlier years, Emily loved curling, and throughout her life gave many hours of her time as a volunteer in the community. She was a member of the Rebekahs, and of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 29 in Fort Frances. She enjoyed gardening at home, fishing with family in the summer, and playing cards with her friends at Sister Kennedy Centre. Emily was well known for her kind and generous heart, and she will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
She was also predeceased by her stepfather, Dave Dueck; stepdaughter, Janice Ross; brothers, Ernie and Fred Simmons; brothers-in-law, Jack Young and Stan Walczak and sister-in-law, Ingrid Simmons.
Emily is survived by her two daughters, Faye (Paul) Hay of Thunder Bay, ON., and Sheryl (Edward) Kresse of Regina, SK, and son, Larry (Noreen) Gustafson of Fort Frances, ON.; stepchildren, Fred (June) Munro of Atikokan, ON., Jack (Geraldine) Munro of Thunder Bay, ON., Keith (Betty) Munro of Dance Twsp., ON., Don (Joyce) Munro of Blackhawk, ON., James (Mary) Munro of Thunder Bay, ON., and John Ross of Thunder Bay, ON., numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; three sisters, Joyce (John) Makahanik of Thunder Bay, ON., Grace Young of Aurora, Illinois and Margaret Walczak of B.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Emily’s life will be held on Monday, January 23, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 29 in Fort Frances, Ontario. The Royal Canadian Legion Color Guard will provide their tribute at the service.
Cremation will take place at Rainy River Cremation Services in International Falls, Minnesota.
Interment will take place in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances, Ontario at a later date.
Honourary pallbearers will be members of Emily’s family.
