Eva was born August 17, 1937 to Joseph and Irene Unger in Fort Frances, Ontario. She was united in marriage to Jack Mattson on June 15, 1957. Together they raised two boys, John and Dan. Eva was a member of the Grey Nuns Association and enjoyed volunteer work at the Victoria Hospital in Winnipeg. She was well known and appreciated for her quiet books. She made and donated 105 of them during her tenure. She doted on her “boys” and as they grew and started their families her attention shifted to her grandchildren. They were her joy and her face would light when they would visit. She loved to tease them, with a mischievous grin and a trick up her sleeve, accompanied by a little giggle that would turn into a belly laugh.
She leaves behind her husband Jack; sons John and wife Diane and Dan and wife Julie all of Fort Frances; grandchildren Kristal (Jasen) Mayfield and their children Malachi and Kaden, Stacy (Dwayne) Strom and their children Keira, Austin and Zach, Greg Mattson (Jenna) and Stephanie (Darwin) Lance and their children Sawyer and Oaklyn; sister Jane (Herb) Snow; brothers Ron (Gwen) Unger and Ed Unger; in-laws Dorleen (Bud) Dyrland, Sharon (Max) Beyak, Marvin (Sandra) Mattson, Margreat Anderson and Randy Mattson as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Eva was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Irene; brother-in-law Terry Anderson and in-laws John and Pearl Mattson.
A memorial mass will be held on Thursday, March 22, 2018 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Fort Frances, ON.
The honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren: Kristal, Stacy, Greg and Stephanie.
