He was born on July 17, 1938 in Fort Frances, ON to John and Pearl Mattson. Jack married the love of his life Eva Unger on June 15, 1957. His career started as a mechanic and turned into a lifetime of management at Superior Propane. He was a stock car racing fan spending his Saturday nights in Emo as part of the #58 race team and later as a dedicated spectator. He was a long time member of the Odd Fellows. He spent his summers at the golf course and attending the annual Mattson fishing trips (35 plus years) and his winters at the curling club, arthritis never slowed him down. Jack had a lot of patience with his grandchildren, teaching them golf and working in the workshop. His last role was being the most dedicated husband caring for Eva before and during her stay at Rainycrest.
He was predeceased by his parents John and Pearl; wife Eva on March 17, 2018; in-laws Joseph and Irene Unger; brother-in law Terry Anderson; sister-in-law Jane Snow; brother Small One and sister Baby Girl.
Jack leaves behind his sons John (Diane) and Dan (Julie) all of Fort Frances; grandchildren Kristal (Jasen) Mayfield and their children Malachi (Darian) and Kaden, Stacy (Dwayne) Strom and their children Keira, Austin (Sara) and Zach, Greg (Jenna) Mattson and Stephanie (Darwin) Lance and their children Sawyer and Oaklyn; great great grandson Rhett Mayfield; sisters Dorleen (Bud) Dyrland, Sharon (Max) Beyak and Margreat Anderson; brothers Marvin (Sandra) and Randy; brothers-in-law Ron (Gwen) Unger, Ed Unger and Herb Snow (aka Partner in Crime) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Friday, September 10, 2021 at 10:30 am at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Fort Frances, Ontario with Father Gino Mathias officiating.
