It is with great sadness the family of Leonard Haver announce his passing on Sunday, September 23, 2018. Peacefully with his nieces by his side, Len has gone on to embrace a home free of pain and to join his loved ones.
Leonard was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on December 30, 1928 to the late Fred and Mary Haver. Along with his parents and siblings he lived in Ericksdale and Mulvehill, Manitoba during his younger years and then in 1947 the family moved to farm in Crozier, Ontario. Over the next several years Leonard worked along with his father and brothers at various jobs around the district and would eventually gain employment with the local pulp and paper mill until his retirement. In the early 60s he built his own home in Crozier. On May 21, 1977 Leonard was united in marriage to the late Elvera Kleven, with whom he gardened and traveled throughout their time together.
Leonard had an immense love of gardening and being outdoors, most will remember catching a glimpse of him hard at work in his gardens as they passed by. He took much pride in sharing his harvest with his family, including his awesome dill pickles and homemade sauerkraut. The family also looked forward to our get togethers where Len always offered to make our favourite wild rice casserole.
Later in life, Leonard would suffer a serious health set back and would then join his brother Arnold and sister Nellie at Rainycrest, where he resided until his passing.
Leonard will be dearly missed by, his sister Nellie Jerry, brother Ronald Haver, sisters-in-law, Irene Hill-Haver, Erna Haver, nieces; Val (Loren), Evelyn (Gord), Harlene (Dane), June (Bruce), nephew; Abby (June) and their families, long time friend; Mary Lou and his Rainycrest Family.
He was predeceased by his parents, wife Elvera, brothers, Arnold, Norman and Edward, brother-in-law Harley Jerry and sister-in-laws Alma Haver and Marie Haver.
To share memories; a visitation will be held from 11:00 to 11:30 am Thursday, September 27, 2018, followed by a come and go tea until 1:00 pm for family and friends at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, Ontario. A private family interment will take place.
Should friends and family so desire, donations may be made in his memory and in appreciation of his care to the Rainycrest Long Term Care Facility or the Rainycrest Auxiliary. In care of Green Funeral Home.
