It is with great sadness that the family of Louise Morrisseau announces her passing on Saturday March 21, 2020 at the LaVerendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, ON.
Louise was born on May 11, 1939 in Northwest Bay to Alphonse and Mary Smith. She was the oldest of her siblings. She was married to Harry Morrisseau and together they raised their 11 children. Louise loved to be surrounded by her family, cooking for them, sharing her knowledge and lending a hand with many projects. She was a respected Elder in her community and often led classes, passing on her teachings. She loved to attend Pow Wows, dancing and selling her crafts. Mom was an elder who gathered medicines and helped those that were in need. Mom also loved to play bingo at the Couchiching Bingo Palace.
She was predeceased by her husband Harry; parents Alphonse and Mary Smith; in-laws Alfred and Maggie Morrisseau; brother Leonard Smith; Sister Liza Smith; step-daughter Alfreda Kearny; grandchildren Ricky, Kelly and Janell Morrisseau, Michael Kearny, Ethan Morrisseau and Sapphire Bruyere; sons-in-law Reg Rogers and Bob Law and daughters-in-law Phyllis Morrisseau, and Mary Morrisseau . Also her brothers-in-laws and sisters-in laws; Emil Morrisseau, Albert and Cecile Morrisseau, Dan Morrisseau, and Margie and Eddie Bruyere.
Louise leaves behind her siblings Florence Yerxa (Willie), Gilbert Smith (Delia), Lorraine Smith (Tommy), Elsie Green (Richard), Alice Smith and Wayne Smith (Tiffany); children Carol, Richard, Elaine, Bugsy, Harry (Joy), Laura (Elmer), Douglas, Patrick, Sheldon (Andrea), Amanda (Leroy), Bill, and Step-son Allen Morrisseau; 92 grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation viewing will take place at 9:00 a.m. Thursday, March 26th with a traditional funeral service will be held with her brother officiating to follow. Interment will take place at Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery on Couchiching First Nation.
The pallbearers will be Derrick Morrison, Anthony Morrisseau, Mike Dodge, Harry Morrisseau Jr., Darrin Smith, Waylon Smith, Gary Smith and Lorne Morrisseau.
The honourary pallbearers will be Debbie Fairbanks, Debbie Jamieson, Florence Yerxa, Elsie Green, Lorraine Smith and Alice Smith.
