OBITUARY

Marlene Dickson

4 May, 1960 – 29 April, 2022

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Marlene Dickson announces her passing on April 29th 2022 at LaVerendrye General Hospital. Marlene passed away surrounded by her family. Her strength and courageousness during her battle with cancer will always be remembered.

Her faith in God and family carried her through this difficult time.

Marlene is survived by mother Beatrice Galbraith, her husband Doug, children; Laura (Tim) McFatridge, Sarah (Marc) Jalbert, and grandchild Zayden. Also survived by brother; Gordon (Carla) Galbraith, sisters; Donna (Eugene) McEvoy, Marie (Alain) Minier, Tracy (Greg) Carlson. Along with numerous neices and nephews. Marlene was recently pre-deceased by her father Donald Galbraith.

Marlene was born May 4th 1960 in Fort Frances to Beatrice (Allan) and Donald Galbraith. Her youthful years were spent on the shores of Rainy Lake at Galbraith Point (Northwest Bay) and Pair-a-Dice Road (Swell Bay). She attended Fort Frances High School and was a graduate of Success in Business College in Winnipeg, MB. She went on to be a medical secretary, executive secretary and was the site coordinator at Contact North in Red Lake before retirement. She was also a volunteer on the Red Lake Hospital Foundation and served many years on the Red Lake Indian Friendship Centre board. She was a dedicated mother to her two beautiful daughters and she loved to spend every minute she could reading books and laughing with her wonderful grandson.

Her high spirited nature and sense of adventure led her to many destinations throughout the globe. If she was to be described in a few words it was that she is a "people person." Marlene was gifted in her ability to make friends wherever she travelled.

Her calm demeanor and ease of conversation naturally attracted people to her. She leaves behind so many good friends. Some were lifelong, and some made in her final days at LaVerendrye Hospital. She loved walking the white sand beaches of Florida where she met many special friends.

Her joyful laugh, her passionate heart, and her deep love is a powerful life testament. She is forever in our hearts, forever holding our hands, forever a part of us.

She has the sun on her face and the wind at her back. She's on another adventure. She's smiling that smile. She knows where she's going.

A private family service was held on Thursday, May 5, 2022 at Green Funeral Home. A public celebration of life will be held this summer.

If friends so desire in memoriam donations may be made to Riverside Health Care - Chemotherapy Unit, 110 Victoria Avenue, Fort Frances, ON, P9A 2B7.

" For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb I praise you because i am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well".
