Mary was born on February 13, 1934 in Rennie Manitoba to Doinese and Anastasia Shankowsky. She was united in marriage to Jim DuCharme on February 4, 1956 and they moved to Sioux Lookout and then Reddit for a short time. In 1960 they came to Fort Frances. Mary worked as a RNA for many years and in 1978 she obtained her degree in Sociology and worked with the District of Rainy River Social Services until her retirement om 1999. She was an active member of the Knox United Church and the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 29 Ladies Auxiliary. She and Jim spent many happy seasons at the cabin, she loved to paint and spend time in her garden there.
She was predeceased by her husband Jim; parents Doinese and Anastasia; brother Harry; in-laws Maxwell, Diane, Lionel, Barbara, Angus, Elaine, Terry, Lorna, and Stanley.
Mary leaves behind her sons Christopher and wife Dee of Fort Frances, Douglas and wife Carol of Winnipeg, MB and Gregory and wife Tammy of Fort Frances; grandchildren John, Robert (Jennifer), Daniel (Shauna), Justine (William), Dylan and Michael Lynn (Brian); great grandchildren Natalie, Austin, Kiersten, Peyten, Brayden and Lincoln; sister Elizabeth (Dennis) and sister-in-laws Ruby and Alice as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 1 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances with Reverend Ralph Fluit officiating.
Cremation has taken place and a private family interment will be held at a later date.
The honourary pallbearers will be her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary will provide an honour guard and tribute.
