Mike was born on July 15, 1933 in Pineridge, Manitoba to the late Joseph and Dora Bodnar. Mike lived there until moving to Crozier in 1952 where he took on working for Wellington Smith & Co., hauling coal, North American Lumber and for Stan Dolyny Ltd. In 1957 he then went to work for O&M Pulp and Paper Co. working in the bush and in 1962 he transferred into the paper mill where he worked until his retirement in 1991.
Mike married Lillian DeGagne on November 24, 1962 and raised their family in Fort Frances. Mike loved fishing, hunting, traveling and spending time with his grandkids.
He was predeceased by his parents and in-laws; brothers Paul and John, granddaughter Billy Jean and great granddaughter Addilyn Jean and numerous brother and sister in laws.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years Lillian; sons Joe (Kathy), Glenn (Jenn); daughter Anita (Friend Gary) and grandchildren Alyssa (Matt), Joe (Mandy), Cody (Kassidy) and Ryan (Cassidy) and his great grandchildren Jacob and Jillian; brothers William (Dorren), Edward, Miron and Norman; sisters Annie Cain (Raymond) Olga Dawkins (Leon), Evelyn (Frank) Meyers and Eleanor (Steve) Johanson as well as numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws.
Mike will be missed greatly by all.
A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 17, 2018 at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 209 Victoria Avenue, Fort Frances, ON.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m., prior to the service.
The pallbearers will be Alyssa Vanderaa, Mark LaFleur, Joseph Bodnar, Cody Bodnar, Ryan Bodnar and Chris Bodnar.
