After a long, hard fought battle with cancer, Sheryl Lynne Douglas, 48, left us all, peacefully on Sunday December 18, 2016. With family at her side, our daughter, sister and wonderful mother went to be with the Lord.
Sheryl was the first of 3 children born to Malcolm and Ruby Douglas, on December 28, 1967 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances ON.
Ruby Douglas, Sheryl’s amazing and loving mother, recently predeceased her (2014) along with her first husband Steve Ladsten (1991).
Sheryl attended grades 1-3 at McIrvine Elementary School, as well as Walker Elementary (4-8) , Westfort (9) and graduated from FFHS in 1986 with her many friends. After high school Sheryl also attended Marvel Beauty School in Winnipeg MB, as well as the Registered Nurse program at La Verendrye Hospital.
Following her father’s footsteps, Sheryl enjoyed several years working at Gillon’s Insurance in Fort Frances, until her second marriage to Dennis Cook where she became the loving and amazing mother to the loves of her life, her daughter Keely Shaye (19) and her son Cameron (16). `
While growing up, Sheryl had many interests. She tried and enjoyed many things, including 4H, swimming, bowling, music and toured across the country with the Fort Frances Children’s Choir, with her brother Sean.
Sheryl was an amazing person and was always smiling, laughing or encouraging her children, family and friends. She was so happy and thankful for her recent “surprise Christmas party”, where she got to spend time with her high school friends, and family.
Sheryl is survived by her father Malcolm, brother Sean (Kim, Brady, Baker, Baylee), sister Sheila, children (Keely Shaye, Cameron), husband Dennis Cook; half siblings Donald, Carrol and Sandra; aunts and uncles Allan (Shelly) Douglas, Fraser Douglas, Judy McQuarie, Bradley (Diane) Brannan, Marjorie (Wilmer) Stang and Delores (Dougly) Livingston as well as numerous cousins.
A special Thank You to cousin Dwight Stang for all his love, and caring as well as the staff at LaVerendrye Hospital during this difficult time.
A service of celebration will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2016 at 2 p.m. at the Knox United Church in Fort Frances, ON with Pastor Brian Keffer officiating.
