It is with a heavy heart and utmost sadness the family of Sue Korosec announces her sudden and unexpected passing on Sunday June 21, 2020 at LaVerendrye General Hospital. She leaves behind her husband Leo; daughters Anastasia (Christopher), Allison (Jamie) and Tamara (Steven); grandchildren A.J., Harvey, Vai, Zorana, Tuula and Mila; great granddaughter Jessica; sister Linda (Norm); in-laws Milan(Debbie), John(Susan), Valerie (Barry), Darinka, Aunt Brenda and special nephew Steven; as well as many nieces and nephews that she adored. Sue was predeceased by her parents William and Jerina, Uncle Nelson and Uncle Gordy.
Sue was born on April 23rd, 1955 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario to William Wharton and Jerina O'Neil. She was raised in Sudbury, where she would meet and marry the love of her life, her high school sweetheart, Leo Korosec and start the family that would mean so much to her. They were married on March 31st 1973 – over 47 years ago, moved to Toronto, then Sudbury for brief stints before settling in Ignace, Ontario. Together they raised their children while Sue worked as a waitress, and even ran an arcade. Sue and Leo shared a love of the outdoors and cultivated this passion by hunting, fishing and camping at Savoy Lake for many years. New work opportunities eventually moved Sue, Leo and the family to Fort Frances, Ontario in 1986, where she graduated from Confederation College with her PSW. She worked at Rainy Crest and was adored by residents and their families alike. Sue remained working in the healthcare field at Shoppers Home Health and Sunset Medical, where she continued to care for and nurture her fellow employees and customers, all the while caring for her own family with a tireless drive that only she had. In addition to her very busy life, Sue continued to challenge herself with starting Smashing Tea Company, which yet was another labour of love. Despite all the endless responsibilities, Sue managed to find time for leisure, spending every available hour out-fishing Leo at Mine Center, where she was "The Queen of the Hill", enjoying the company of friends and family.
Sue was so many things to so many people, often filling the void in each of us. She was a wife, matriarch, sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, mentor, advocate, teacher, entrepreneur, confidant and sometimes a beacon of light for those less fortunate lost in the darkness. Sue had an uncanny ability to connect with people, graciously taking the time to chat, offer comfort, impart wisdom or crack a sarcastic zinger – all with her trademark vibrant smile and quick wit. Those of you that had the pleasure of spending more than two minutes talking to her know her ‘larger than life’ personality and unapologetic honesty were refreshing and pure. Sue was the center of our universe, selflessly dancing on the edge – helping us all in our times of need. She will be sorely missed but absolutely never forgotten. Rest in Peace Sue Korosec, you were a brilliantly cut, unique gem whose memories will live on through those lives you touched.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of her life will be held once the COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted and the family can gather together.
If friends so desire, in memoriam donations may be made to Salvation Army, 343 Scott Street, Fort Frances, ON, P9A 1H1 or www.salvationarmy.ca
