Sister Aleyamma Samuel was a loving daughter, sister, nurse, wife, mother, grandmother, and servant for her Savior, Jesus Christ. Born in Kerala, India in August, 1941, the daughter of K.V. & Nity Varkey of Kollamkudiyil House, completing her schooling and nursing training (RN) in India. Immigrating to the United States in 1969, she later married her dear husband, Samuel Abraham of Arukalickal House, Mylapra, Kerala in 1971. They started their family and had three sons- Thomas (Cecil), Sunil, and Anil. Mummy welcomed her three daughter-in-laws as her own daughters- Mini, Blessie, and Ruby.
Mummy was fondly known by many names, Alamma, Sammy, Aley and Ammachi. Her story began when she arrived in Philadelphia- this was the start of a brilliant career in nursing. She was passionate for the work of the Lord and was a faithful servant in India Gospel Assembly, New York for the next 40 years. Known for her spiritual gift of hospitality as well as her delicious cooking, Mummy and Daddy’s house always had an open door. Their home became a haven for church picnics, prayer meetings, Sunday school anniversaries and family volleyball nights. Mummy’s wit and charm made these gatherings warm and welcoming. Everyone who walked into their home became family.
The coming years saw Mummy face two battles with breast cancer but her resilience and strength in the Lord were a testament to her faith. She eventually moved to Florida with her family where she spent the last 20 years of her life. She was a faithful member of Fellowship Bible Chapel in Fort Myers, Florida. Mummy was proudest when she was promoted to Ammachi and her seven grandkids became her greatest joy. Her grandkids will always remember her vibrant personality, a nurturing spirit, and an endless supply of candy. Her deep affection for the Lord’s people and her testimony of sincere love and unshakable faith will be remembered by her family and community.
She is survived by her husband (Sam) of 54 years, her children (Cecil & Mini, Sunil & Blessie, Anil & Ruby), seven grandchildren (Jake, Anjali, Alayna, Lexi, Aaron, Zachary, & Mark), and her brother (Jacob). May God’s name be praised…
“Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of your Lord.”
