

Alice Theresa Delegal McLaughlin passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 12, 2015. Theresa was born in St. Augustine, Fl. On February 25, 1922 to Luther and Mary Delegal. In the early 1920s, the Delegal family left North florida and settled in Oakland Park where they were among the original pioneers of the area. Theresa grew up with her twin brothers, Eugene and Palmer, and her sister Melba Pack. She married Chester McLaughlin at the Pompano Beach Baptist Church and moved to Michigan t, where she would begin her 40 year career with the phone company. Theresa returned to Oakland Park in the late 1950’s to be closer to her family, raise her son, and continue her career. Theresa leaves behind her son, Boyce McLaughlin, her grandchildren Kelly Theresa McLaughlin, Daniel Boyce McLaughlin, David Mathew McLaughlin, Andrew Shernesky (all of Ohio), Jenna Marie Shernesky (of Pompano Beach), sister Melba June Pack (of Redding California), sister in law Majorie Delegal (of Oakland Park), many nieces and nephews, friends and dear friends Patricia Hunt, Bonnie Schindler, and Bill Emerich. Theresa was a warm and loving wife, mother , grandmother, and friend. She had an affable and congenial nature and was generous and cordial to all. She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Oakland Park. Visitation will be held at Kraeer-Fairchild Funeral Home, 4061 North Federal Highway, Ft. Lauderdale on Friday, January 16, 2015 from 5:00-700PM with a service at 7:00PM. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to the American Diabetes Association.
