

Catherine Clara Matin, age 96 passed from this life to her heavenly home on Tuesday, April 4, 2023. She lived a long and happy life, always with a smile and kind words. Born in Canton, Ohio to Nicolaos and Ruby Couris , Catherine graduated from Canton McKinley High School and began her working career as an usherette at the Palace Theater.
Catherine had many jobs in the following years including Soldiers Relief and Jim Matin’s Lounge. She worked for the Stark County Juvenile System for 31 years before retiring to Wilton Manors, Florida in 1989. Her last job was payroll clerk for Fisherman’s Wharf in Pompano Beach until 2010. She spent the last 15 months near her family in Winter Garden, Florida.
While living in Canton, she was very active with the Daughters of Penelope at St. Haralambos and in Ft. Lauderdale with the Ladies Philoptochos Society at St. Demetrios.
Her love of her dogs was second only to her love of her family. She was a big supporter of animal charities and never met a dog she didn’t love who didn’t love her back.
Catherine is preceded in death by her son Nick and is survived by her son Stacy (Kay)Matin, grandsons, Matthew (Sarah)Matin , Joseph Matin , Philip Matin and great grandson Andrew Matin, all of Winter Garden, Florida.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 10, 2023 from 1:00 - 2:00 at Saint Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 820 NE 14th Ave, Fort Lauderdale. Catherines funeral service will commence immediately upon the conclusion of visitation at 2:00. Entombment will take place in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Pompano Beach.
