'With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Glasspole Brown (aka Glassy). A beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, brother in law and friend to all. Glassy passed away May 28th, 2020 in Pembroke Pines, Florida.
Glasspole (Glassy) was born on November 8, 1945 in Westmoreland, Jamaica to parents, Leo and Myrtle Brown. He attended Mannings High School, Clarendon College and ultimately graduated from Excelsior High School. Glassy was a track and field star at Mannings High School and was on both cricket and soccer teams at Excelsior High. Sports dominated his high school career. He migrated to Canada.
In 1968, he married his childhood sweetheart, Sheila Morant and they later had two children, Gigi and Shelley! He attended Eastern Ontario Institute of Technology in Ottawa where he graduated with a degree in Business Administration in 1968. In 1969, Glassy accepted a position as a management trainee at Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce in Ottawa. He was later transferred to Cibc Toronto, where he remained for approximately 12 years, working as an accountant, auditor and finally bank manager (President). The family relocated to the United States in 1982 and settled in Florida where he successfully invested in various business ventures.
Glassy was socially active, the life of the party.... and one would always cherish interactions with him as he was jovial and happy no matter how serious things may seem, he was always on the dance floor!! His family and friends will always remember him as the great family man, loving husband and father, kind, fun loving, genuine person and as the Buffalo Bills number one fan, never missing Monday night football!!
Glassy is survived by his wife, Sheila; daughters, Shelley and Gillian Brown of Pembroke Pines, Florida; siblings, Monica (Donald) Murdock, Rose Crivelli, Blossom Mclean, Marco Brown, Val (Cleve) Kenny and Neville Brown; and several nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leopold and Myrtle Brown of Jamaica; brothers in law, Terry Crivelli and Dr. Winston Mclean.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, July 11, 2020 at 3:00 pm followed by a committal service. All services will take place at Forest Lawn South Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens South, 2401 Davie Road, Davie, Florida 33317.
Due to COVID-19 pandemic, the service will be restricted to immediate family and invited friends. The entire service will be streamed real time and the link will be available on this website and on Facebook. After public safety concerns are eliminated, a memorial service and reception for friends and extended family will be held and all will be welcome at that time to celebrate Glassy's life.
Glassy will be dearly missed.
