Hector Suro was born January 7, 1941 in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, to Juana Reyes and Anibal Suro. Preceded in death by his parents, his sister Cruz Lydia Garcia, and his daughter Carmen Suro. He leaves behind his brother, Genaro; wife, Nereida; son, Hector; daughter-in-law, Debbie; daughter Marisol; son-in-law, Moises; grandchildren, Derek, Ethan, Isabella, Nyleen and great-grandson Geovanni.
It’s impossible to capture the essence of Hector Suro in a few short paragraphs. He loved life and loved his family and friends. He fought through any adversities with so much strength and passion. Hector made such a deep connection with his family and friends. He meant so much to everyone, especially the younger generation who respected and valued his love and strength; they all were his grandchildren! He made every member of his family feel loved and special and didn’t hold back on his feelings and beliefs.
In spite the many obstacles he faced, he never lost his sense of humor. He devotedly supported his family members in their passions, attending countless baseball and softball games and recitals. Hector loved music and sports; especially his salsa and his Jets and Yankees. Hector and his son shared these two passions.
He blessed and inspired us with his boundless strength, quick wit, laughter, gracious hospitality, impeccable honesty, fierce determination, startling frankness and listening ear. He was a lifeline for many during their biggest struggles in life—a true husband, friend, son, brother, dad, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather. His wife, family, and friends were his life. Yet Pop often felt unworthy of the accolades and appreciation that people showered on him. Hector Suro is a one of a kind who will be missed deeply.
