A career United States Air Force Member, James received various decorations and medals, the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Distinguished-Presidential Unit Citation, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Valor Device, Combat Readiness Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Device, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal.
James was a member of the Fort Lauderdale Highlanders Bag Pipe Band.
James is survived by his wife, Adrienne;his mother-in-law, Frances Foley; his sister-in-law, Cora Foley Diaz and her husband Ernesto Diaz; his brother-in-law, Ciaran Foley and his wife Patricia; his nieces and nephews, Roisin, Sean,Conor and Nikki and baby Jack; also surviving are cousin Gerri Fahr and family. He was predeceased by his parents, Walter Gow and Helen May (Kennely) Freebairn, his brothers, Tom, Walter and Alan.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2019 from 2:00 - 3:00 at the Kraeer-Fairchild Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 4061 North Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale. A funeral service will commence at 3:00 immediately upon the conclusion of visitation. Burial will take place in South Florida National Cemetery on Monday, April 1, 2019 at 11:30 AM with full military honors.
