Jeannine is survived by her daughter Jessie M. Colin, son-in-law Jean F. Colin, grandsons Frantz, Paul and Pierre Colin, her brother Roger “Loulou” Herard, her granddaughter-in-law Michelle Colin, her great grandsons Tyce and Ayden Colin and finally nieces and nephews from the Herard, Gornail, Stephenson and Charles families.
Jeannine was born on February 6, 1930 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti to Aurel Herard and Paulina Barthelmy. As an adult she became a grade school and French teacher. She married Ernest Guy Gornail in 1951. In 1952 the couple welcomed their only child Marie-Jessie Gornail into their home. In 1954, she migrated to the United States specifically Brooklyn, NY. Jeannine began working in the hotel industry and was promoted to executive housekeeper. After several years she moved on and became a billing collector with Citibank, where she stayed until her retirement.
She enjoyed traveling and was an entrepreneur. She also was a 42-year Breast Cancer Survivor and practiced the Catholic faith. In 1992, upon her retirement, she moved to Cooper City, FL to live close to her daughter, son-in-law and grandkids. Her child remembers her most as a strong-willed, independent and caring mother and grandmother who encouraged education and success.
Jeannine was a generous individual who loved her family and who was proud of them. She was passionate about her family achieving success. She wanted the best for all of them.
A funeral is scheduled for December 4th, 2021 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 2401 Davie Road, Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. There will be a Viewing from 10am-12Noon, a Catholic Service at 1 pm, the Interment at 2pm and the repass from 2:30 pm-4:30 pm. Father Jean Jadotte will officiate the ceremony. Please join us as we celebrate our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother’s life.
Jeannine will be dearly missed.
