Joan was born on August 7th, 1934, in Nashville, TN, and raised in Pulaski, TN, by her parents Aileen and Otha Dunnavant (both deceased). She was a kind and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her son, Owen Kenneth Sloan II (Melissa Scott-Sloan); daughter, Cheryl “Sherri” Sloan; granddaughter, Amanda Lynn Sloan; grandson, Albert H. Sloan III; granddaughters, Alicia M. Sloan and Stephanie R. Sloan; and great-grandchildren, Addison, Ava, Scarlett, Owen, and Leia. She is also survived by her extended family in Pulaski and the many cousins she always cared for and loved.
Joan loved to travel—sailing, RVing, and cruising around the world. There were still places she hoped to see. She shared many of these adventures with her husband Albert H. Sloan II (deceased 1993) and later with her husband Daniel A. Barlow (deceased 2011). She lived boldly, with a love that made everyone feel part of her world—if only for a moment.
A private graveside service will be held on Sunday, August 10th, 2025, at Evergreen Cemetery in Fort Lauderdale, FL, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to The Humane Society of Broward County.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.
