

Myrtle June Pierson Martin was born on June 14, 1921, in Easton, Pennsylvania. She was the sixth of nine children born to Grace Gariss and Joseph Pierson. June passed away peacefully on her 104th birthday, June 14, 2025, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
She attended schools in Easton and later graduated from Wilson High School in West Lawn, Pennsylvania. Over the years, she held various jobs, including working at Scheibel’s Bakery, before enlisting in the United States Navy. She joined the WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) on February 19, 1943, and was honorably discharged on October 20, 1945.
While stationed in Pensacola, Florida, she met her future husband, Richard Arthur Martin (1921–1971). They were married on July 19, 1945, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
June is honored for her military service at The Women’s Memorial in Washington, D.C.
She and Richard began their married life in Philadelphia, where he attended and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Medical School, later becoming an anesthesiologist. The couple lived in New Bedford, Massachusetts, for several years before settling permanently in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
June is survived by her four children: Lynn Andrea Martin Gaylord, Richard Thomas Martin, Robert Charles Martin, and Thomas Owen Martin, along with their spouses. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
