

After graduating from Jamaica College in Jamaica, Leighton enrolled at Howard University in Washington D.C., the country’s top producer of Black students in STEM, to pursue his passion for math and science. He graduated from Howard University with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
After graduating from Howard University, Leighton enjoyed a distinguished career as an electrical engineer in Jamaica and the United States. Notably, he did lighting projects for some of South Florida’s most recognizable establishments including the Festival Flea Market Mall, The National Car Rental Center (the original Florida Panthers’ arena), and Miami International Airport.
“Bully,” as he was affectionately known, was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on this earth was one marked by humor, love, compassion, curiosity, and faith.
Those who knew Bully will remember him for his infectious smile, unwavering commitment to spreading love and kindness to everyone he encountered, magnificent obsession with animals and wildlife, and deep love of education and learning.
His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by him.
Leighton was preceded in death by his two brothers, Morris and Michael.
Leighton is survived by his loving wife, Ann; his sons Darren, Craig, Steven, and Roger (Emily); his grandsons Alex, Cameron, and Chase; his sister Audrey; and nieces, nephews, and friends.
A special acknowledgment extends to Leighton’s caregivers and nurses during his final days, whose compassion was a true blessing.
A Celebration of Life service to honor Leighton’s life will be held on August 2, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Kraeer-Fairchild Funeral Home and Cremation Center at 4061 N Federal Hwy, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33308.
