Maria was born in Italy to Francesca and Giuseppe in December of 1937. She married Joseph Pernicone in July of 1957 in Italy after a brief courtship. He was a tourist, and she was a local he stopped to ask directions; they fell head-over-heels in love and a couple of weeks later, he proposed marriage and she accepted. The marriage lasted until his death, 52 years later. After the wedding, they settled in New York City where she was a stay-at-home Mom to two daughters. The family later moved to South Florida and remained there. She was a devoted wife and took care of her ill husband at home during his final years. She was a devoted Mother, caring for and helping her daughters until the day she passed. Maria was a talented singer and writer, but, after marriage, put her creative skills to use for her family’s projects. She also was blessed with many artistic talents. In her recent years she wrote a manuscript for a series of children's books which will be published posthumously. She was always extremely kind and thoughtful to everyone and one of her nurses cried when they parted ways after only knowing her a couple of weeks. She had great faith and a deep love for Jesus. Maria was always there to lend a helping hand and her love was always, with no doubt, unconditional. She was a very special person who brought light and joy wherever she went, uplifting people who came near her. Physically, she was always a very beautiful woman, regardless of her age. She had incredibly beautiful blue eyes, amazing natural curls and, even at 86, flawless skin with no wrinkles.
