MADDEN - Mary Jo (Riley), formerly of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully in her home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Tuesday, November 2nd. Mary was born in Toledo in 1924, graduated from Waite High School and served in the Defense Corps during WWII. She married Robert H. Madden, her childhood friend, in 1947, and together they raised eight children, Michael (Mary Anne), Sheila, Mary Kay Lodge (Greg), Patricia Rooney (Ron), Mark (Sharon), Lisa Pace (Ron), John, and Julie Escuage (Mark). The family transferred to Switzerland in the early 1960’s and returned to Toledo until they relocated to Fort Lauderdale in the 1970’s and together formed a wholesale building supply and construction business which is still family owned and operated today. Mary tirelessly devoted her life to her family, including 19 grandchildren and great grandchildren. She served in her Church as an Extraordinary Eucharistic Minister, visited prisons, and delivered Holy Communion to the hospitalized for years. Even with a large family, their home and dining table was always open to anyone. Mary is preceded in passing by Robert and her six siblings. Well done good and faithful servant. A Catholic Mass will be held at 7 p.m. at Saint Henry Catholic Church in Pompano Beach, Florida on Saturday, November 13, 2010. We would ask that your generosity be directed to Hospice.
Arrangements under the direction of Kraeer-Fairchild Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
