Visitation will be held at 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. on Thursday September 12, 2019. The funeral service will be held at noon on Friday, September 13, 2019 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Pastor Robbie Morrow of Life Point Church will be officiating. Burial to follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.
Olena was born at Fyrish, Berbice, Guyana on June 26th 1938. She was the second of seven children born to Etwaru and Sumintra Bikhai. She attended Albion Primary School for a short time and had to leave in order to assist her mother with her siblings.
Olena was married to Harry Ramsammy on April 1st 1955 they were married for 61 years until his passing in November 2015.
Olena was a full-time homemaker, who worked tirelessly to care for her husband and children. She enjoyed cooking, baking and taking care of others in her community. She was involved in many fundraisers for her church, including WMO Organization that she belonged to, where she made crafts and needle work.
After migrating to Canada she continued taking care of her husband, children and grandchildren. She enjoyed watching television and her favorite shows were, General Hospital, Days of Our Lives, Karate Kid, Matilda and Home Alone. She never missed a day of Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. She recently developed a love for gardening, taking over from her husband and loved to pick her produce.
Olena is survived by her children, Hannah (Babe), Rehanna (Re), Rovena (Rove), Gena (Genie), Paul (Ivor), Diana (Baby) and Rosie (Baby Bird), her 6 sons-in-law and 1 daughter-in-law, her 20 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, her Brother Lionel and Sister Jean, nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.
Olena is preceded in death by her parents Sumintra and Etwaru, her brothers Madan and Boney, her sisters Sheila and Elsie and husband Harry Ramsammy.
