

Sandry Carty 65, of Sunrise, Florida passed away on Tuesday, September 8, in Sunrise, after a year-long illness. She was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad, West Indies, the 6th and last child of Samuel and Annie Collins.
She resided also in Toronto, and several U.S. cities at different times during her lifetime, including Lewisburg, PA, Washington DC and the New York area. She had careers in fashion, retail and senior care. Sandra worked in the NY garment center as fabric Buyer, and for the City of NY as Process Server. She returned to Port of Spain, for a period, where she owned and operated We Care assisted living facility. She always helped others, especially with charity and volunteer work in senior care. She created and produced the Senior Games in Port of Spain, drawing athletes from throughout the Caribbean. In Broward County she was Marketing Director for a commercial pharmacy, worked and volunteered in assisted living, and for many senior organizations including the Area Agency on Aging, the Senior Connection, the Broward Coalition on Aging (BCOA) where she conceived and managed a joyful fundraiser called Men Who Cook. She co-created the Cheryl Wilson Foundation for low-income seniors, and later worked for Dignity Memorial and Neiman Marcus.
She is survived by her son Kareem Carty, granddaughters Alicia and Kayla, siblings Etris Mason of Toronto, Kelvon Alfred of Trinidad, Odette Noel of New York, and Rosemarie Alfred of Tobago, as well as very close nephew Randy Collins, and niece Wendy Williams, and also many other nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Gathering will be held on Monday evening, September 28, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Forest Lawn Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens South, 2401 Davie Road, Davie, Florida, located with the pyramid building along Route 595, the closest building to 595.

The family wishes to thank Vitas for hospice care, Dignity Memorial for their kind considerations, and special friends and neighbors for their love and care during her illness.
A bright light has blinked out, but remains in the hearts of many she touched.
